CODEX OF VAMPIRIC LAWS & FIELD RULES
Compiled by Master Hunter Malachi Van Helsing
Official Reference Manual for Field Operatives & Junior Apprentices
SECTION I: IDENTIFICATION & TESTING
1. The False "Spoon Test" Cautionary Warning
⚠️ VAN HELSING FIELD WARNING: Do NOT rely on civilian urban legends or unverified tests created by panicked teenagers.
The Myth: Placing a standard metal spoon on a suspected vampire's nose or forehead to see if it sticks or burns them.
The Reality: FALSE. As demonstrated during the infamous incident at Renfield's restaurant, Count Dimitri Denatos easily passed Adam Hansen’s fake "Spoon Test" by simply balancing a metal spoon on his nose without any physical distress.
The Takeaway: Vampires are not magnetometers or silverware allergists. Never base a field execution on kitchen utensils.
2. Verified Physical Indicators
To accurately identify a vampire in public without blowing your cover, check for the following canonical physical markers:
- Absence of Reflection: Vampires cast no reflection in standard silver-backed mirrors or reflective glass.
- Thermal Signature: Vampires are completely cold-blooded creatures. A standard digital Vamp-O-Meter or thermal scanner will register room-temperature ambient readings where body heat should be.
- Garlic Repulsion: A vampire exhibits severe physical discomfort, nausea, or immediate recoil when exposed to garlic powder, garlic clove spray, or garlic-heavy meals (such as authentic Italian cuisine).
- Nighttime Optics: They wear tinted sunglasses or avoid bright stage lighting to conceal eyes sensitive to artificial ultraviolet frequencies.
- Nocturnal Avian Transmutation: Ability to shapeshift into or command micro-bats for recon and surveillance.
SECTION II: INVITATIONS & DOMICILE LAWS
3. The Law of Thresholds
The Rule: A vampire cannot cross the threshold of a private residence unless expressly invited inside by a resident living under that roof.
The Danger: A verbal invitation—even one made in jest or ignorance by an uninformed sibling or teenager—grants the vampire total immunity to cross the boundary forever after.
Apprentice Protocol: If a vampire is standing on your front porch, DO NOT welcome them inside, no matter how polite, charming, or well-dressed they appear.
SECTION III: HYPNOTIC SPELLS & VAMPIRIC TRANCES
4. The Mind Control Spell
The Hazard: Ancient vampires possess hypnotic eye contact capable of placing unsuspecting mortals—especially single parents—into a deep, docile trance state. Once hypnotized, the victim will follow the vampire blindly and accept invitations to hidden lairs or nightclubs.
The Counter-Rule (True Love Breakdown): Vampiric mind control cannot withstand the power of true familial love.
Field Precedent: When Count Dimitri cornered the Hansen family, Lynette Hansen’s deep bond with her children (Taylor, Adam, and Chelsea) broke the vampire's hypnotic spell completely when she heard their cries for help.
SECTION IV: THE COFFIN & SOIL REQUIREMENT
5. Native Soil & Sunrise Vulnerability
The Rule of Sleep: An ancient vampire must return to its consecrated native soil inside its home coffin before the break of dawn.
The Weakness: Without their home soil, vampires lose their supernatural stamina and rapidly decay when daylight hits.
Tactical Heist Maneuver: If fighting a high-tier vampire, target their coffin transport. Loading their native-soil coffin onto a motor vehicle and driving it away forces the vampire out into the open before sunrise, leaving them vulnerable to daylight and wooden stake containment.
SECTION V: FIELD TACTICS & GEAR SELECTION
- Always Carry Redundant Stake Supplies: Never go into a hunt with a single wooden stake. Oak and ash wood are preferred.
- Pressurized Holy Water: Standard spray bottles are insufficient; use high-PSI pressurized water guns loaded with pre-blessed holy water.
- Never Hunt Alone: Even master hunters need field assistants to monitor radar tracking devices and manage transportation.

Inheriting centuries of vampire-hunting lore, Malachi adopted the sacred mantle of his forebears—though his practical field execution leans heavily on modern gadgetry, trial-and-error tactics, and sheer perseverance.
Operating out of a mobile command unit and keeping a low public profile, Malachi established himself as the premier toll-free contact for occult emergency reports.
I. Lineage & Early Life
Malachi Van Helsing is a direct descendant of the legendary Abraham Van Helsing family, carrying on a generational legacy dedicated to tracking, exposing, and exterminating creatures of the night.
II. Physical Appearance & Signature Attire
Malachi presents himself in classic, theatrical monster-hunter fashion:
- Outerwear: A heavy leather trench coat lined with inner utility pockets for quick weapon drawing.
- Headwear: A broad-brimmed dark leather fedora/safari hat.
- Eyewear: Dark tactical sunglasses worn even at night to combat supernatural glare and maintain an intimidating aura.
- Combat Gear: Crossbody utility bandoliers carrying garlic canisters, holy water vials, stake pouches, and high-frequency tracking gear.
III. Arsenal & Tactical Equipment
Malachi’s hunting repertoire blends traditional folklore weaknesses with specialized mechanical weaponry:
Vampire Detection Gear
- Vamp-O-Meter / Thermal Occult Scanners: Handheld radar devices designed to track cold-blooded vampiric signatures and micro-bats.
- Silver-Infrared Goggles: Night-vision visual aids to detect illusion-cast vampires.
Offensive & Defensive Weapons

- Garlic Dust Bombs & Sprays: Concentrated aerosol garlic blasters used for crowd dispersal and immobilizing leeches.
- Holy Water Water-Guns & Capsules: Pressurized liquid launchers loaded with blessed water.
- Gilded Mirrors & UV Searchlights: Portable ultraviolet lights and reflective surfaces to force vampires out of camouflage or paralyze them with artificial sunlight.
IV. The Hunt for Count Dimitri Denatos
Malachi’s defining campaign in the Year 2000 brought him to the quiet suburb of Oakville, following rumors of Count Dimitri Denatos—an ancient, charismatic vampire who had emerged from hibernation to claim a mortal bride.
1. The Call and First Contact
While sweeping local grocery markets for vampiric activity, Malachi was contacted via his hotline by 8-year-old Taylor Hansen. Taylor reported that his mother, Lynette Hansen, was out on a blind date with a man showing clear signs of vampirism: pale skin, lack of reflection, aversion to garlic, and subtle bat transformations.
Initial Meeting:
Taylor Hansen: "Are you Malachi Van Helsing?"
Malachi Van Helsing: "On a good day."
Recognizing Taylor’s genuine observation and keen instincts, Malachi reluctantly broke protocol and agreed to let the young boy join him in the field as an official junior partner.
2. Stakeout & Execution at "Renfield's" and The Suede Shoe
Malachi and Taylor tracked Dimitri and Lynette to the upscale gothic restaurant Renfield's, and later to The Suede Shoe nightclub. Throughout the evening, Malachi attempted several strikes, though his grand entrances and theatrical setups frequently led to comedic setbacks—including getting ejected by club bouncers and mishandling his own garlic traps.
Despite these blunders, Malachi’s persistence provided key intelligence:
- Dimitri possessed mesmerizing hypnotic powers capable of placing mortal mothers into deep trances.
- Dimitri’s primary objective was to complete a ceremony before sunrise to lock Lynette under his spell forever.
- The vampire’s soil-filled coffin was hidden nearby, serving as his absolute point of vulnerability.
3. The Final Battle at the Mansion
Joined by Taylor’s older siblings, Adam and Chelsea, Malachi mounted a full-scale raid on Dimitri's lair.
- The Coffin Heist: Realizing a vampire cannot survive without returning to his native soil before dawn, Malachi and the Hansen kids located Dimitri’s coffin and loaded it onto the back of a truck, forcing the vampire into a desperate pursuit.
- The Final Climax: In the showdown, Dimitri cornered the group, but the kids snapped Lynette out of her trance. Working together with Lynette, Taylor, Adam, and Chelsea, Malachi used his vampire hunter gear to trap Dimitri inside his own coffin just as the sun rose, sealing the ancient monster away once and for all.
V. Character Traits & Personality
- Flamboyant yet Dedicated: Malachi takes immense pride in his family name, often using dramatic voice tones and high-handed bravado despite taking occasional physical spills.
- Mentor to the Youth: Though initially gruff with children, Malachi showed genuine respect for Taylor Hansen’s quick thinking and brave spirit, ultimately granting him full field honors.
- Unwavering Resolve: Regardless of how many times a vampire outmaneuvers him or how many hats get crushed in the commotion, Van Helsing never backs down from a fight.
